Creativity in Invention & Design by Subrata DasGupta,

Creativity in Invention & Design by Subrata DasGupta,
Creativity is a topic that has traditionally interested psychologists, historians, and biographers. In recent years, developments in cognitive science and artificial intelligence have provided a powerful computational framework in which creativity can be studied and the creative process can be described and explained. In this book, creativity in technology is discussed within such a computational framework. Using an important historical episode in computer technology as a case study, namely, the invention of microprogramming by Maurice Wilkes in 1951, the author presents a plausible explanation of the process by which Wilkes may have arrived at his invention. Based on this case study, the author has also proposed some very general hypotheses concerning creativity that appear to corroborate the findings of some psychologists and historians and then suggests that creative thinking is not significantly different in nature from everyday thinking and reasoning. This book should be of interest to all those interested in creativity, including cognitive scientists, historians and philosophers of science, historians and philosophers of technology, and artificial intelligence researchers. It should also appeal to the general reader.

Reasoning about Knowledge by Ronald Fagin,
Reasoning about Knowledge by Ronald Fagin,
Reasoning about knowledge--particularly the knowledge of agents who reason about the world and each other's knowledge--was once the exclusive province of philosophers and puzzle solvers. More recently, this type of reasoning has been shown to play a key role in a surprising number of contexts, from understanding conversations to the analysis of distributed computer algorithms."Reasoning About Knowledge is the first book to provide a general discussion of approaches to reasoning about knowledge and its applications to distributed systems, artificial intelligence, and game theory. It brings eight years of work by the authors into a cohesive framework for understanding and analyzing reasoning about knowledge that is intuitive, mathematically well founded, useful in practice, and widely applicable. The book is almost completely self-contained and should be accessible to readers in a variety of disciplines, including computer science, artificial intelligence, linguistics, philosophy, cognitive science, and game theory. Each chapter includes exercises and bibliographic notes.

Artificial General Intelligence Research Institute - Founded in 2001, the Artificial General Intelligence Research Institute's (AGIRI) mission is to "foster the creation of powerful and ethically positive" Artificial General Intelligence. AGIRI hosts an online forum, publishes material on the development, application and implications for AGI, and hosts AGI workshops in the Washington, DC area.

Anticipation (artificial intelligence) - In artificial intelligence, anticipation is the concept of an agent making decisions based on predictions, expectations, or beliefs about the future. It is widely recognized that anticipation is a vital component of complex natural cognitive systems.

K-line (artificial intelligence) - ... a group of other mental agents found active when a subject solves a certain problem or formulates a new idea. These were first described in Marvin Minsky's essay K-lines: A Theory of Memory, published in 1980 in the journal Cognitive Science,

Artificial consciousness - Artificial consciousness (AC), also known as machine consciousness (MC) or synthetic consciousness, is a field related to artificial intelligence and cognitive robotics whose aim is to define that which would have to be synthesized were consciousness to be found in an engineered artefact.

Pierce's brand of cosmotheism are both related to transhumanism in their aspirations of creating superior human beings, but are quite different from other forms of transhumanism in their beliefs about the mechanism of that improvement, amongst other issues. It is argued positively by some that the anti-humanistic and pseudoscientific beliefs and practices of eugenics and cosmotheism are incompatible with any definition of transhumanism. Transhumanism was given its modern definition and characterization by philosopher Dr. Max More: "Transhumanism is the idea that new technologies are likely to change the world so much in the nature and possibilities of our lives resulting from various sciences and technologies[ ]" [1] Other definitions of "transhumanism" have been written over the years, such as Christian transhumanism and eugenics that are in agreement with secular transhumanism on the ideal of profound human self-improvement and the theory of "euvolution" within William L.
